My 8th grade year was the best year of my life. This was all because of one trip that changed my life forever,
and that trip was when I went to China. The adventure started at an airport in Hong Kong, we had just arrived in
a new world, a world that would change how I look at things. After we arrived at the airport it was around 1:00
A.M. We had to take a bus to our hotel. We were then assigned our rooms and our rooms with our roommates.
My roommate was my friend Jackson, we headed up to our rooms with our heavy luggage. This was our first
night in china.
It was the second day and we got the phone call to wake us up in our hotel rooms. The day started off by us
all getting on bicycles. We had to ride through some places because the roads were too narrow for a bus. I
thought that this was a terrible idea because I was not very active then, but this was the most beautiful moment
of my life. I saw the rivers and villages. We stopped by one village that was harvesting rice. My school sent us
over with toys for the children at the villages. As we pulled into the village the people welcomed us by waving
and following us. We pulled up in front of the first building that we saw, and the children were all standing in
the fields looking at us but not speaking. One of the oldest members of the village approached us and she was
wrinkly like a sun dried raison. She smelled sweet and was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans, she asked us if we
were missionaries and my group leader told her that we were not because that is illegal in China. We were just a
christian school group touring China. She then said something in Chinese and the children rushed over to us.
They touched our hair and clothes . They were very exited once we pulled out the toys for them and they only
took the hot wheels and dolls.
It was five days later that we stopped by an orphanage for the children with disabilities. The owner of the
orphanage was an American man. He told us their stories and how the orphanage was started by a miracle.
He adopted a child baby that had burns all over his body. The man and his wife found him and rushed the
burned baby to the hospital. There was a 90% chance that the baby would not survive within the first day so
the man prayed for a miracle and the burned baby boy grew up and was interviewed by different TV stations.
After a few interview, he became famous and decided to give the money to his father or who he calls his father to
start an orphanage. So 25 years later they became the most famous orphanage in China. Since my school sent out
donations they decided to have a get together for all the orphans and students. I played with the little children and
I gave one a piggy back ride. I knew then and there that I would never think the same. When I saw the difference
that we made, I knew that this place was nothing short of a miracle.
